New Priest-In-Charge Under Special Circumstances Starts July 8

Members of St. Barnabas,

Your Vestry and I have spent the last couple of months in great prayer and discernment, as I’m sure you all have done, regarding the search for our new Priest-In-Charge Under Special Circumstances. It is with a full and happy heart that we now announce to you all that the process has come to a close. On July 8, we invite you all to join us as we welcome Fr. Michael Bordelon and his wife Lauren into the St. Barnabas family for their first Sunday with us!

Fr. Michael was born and raised right here in our Diocese, as was Lauren. Fr. Michael comes to us with vast liturgical knowledge, a deep graciousness, and the ability to help us as a congregation to grow spiritually. Additionally, Fr. Michael will bring energy and enthusiasm to our church’s post-Renewal Works momentum. We are thrilled that they are joining the St. B family.

The Vestry thanks you all for your patience and prayers as we worked our way through this process. We all appreciate the support and love. I am personally looking forward to seeing how St. Barnabas grows and changes as Fr. Michael and our lay leaders work in concert to help grow the Jesus Movement right here in our own backyard! Please see the below note from Fr. Michael.

With love,

Etienna Wright. Sr. Warden

Greetings St. Barnabas family,

It is with great joy and overwhelming anticipation that I introduce myself as your new Priest-In-Charge Under Special Circumstances. Since that does not roll off the tongue, you can just call me Fr. Michael.  My wife, Lauren, and I currently live in Monroe where I serve as Curate and Chaplain for Grace Episcopal Church & School.

Lauren and I both grew up in the Episcopal Church in Western Louisiana.  One of the things I love about the Episcopal Church is that we not only “welcome you,” but we give you a place to call home.  This is why I always look at a church as more than a group of people who come together for worship and ministry. We share our stories, our passions, and our lives.  We are a family.  Lauren and I are looking forward to finding our home and finding our family in you, the people of St. Barnabas.

Now for some odds and ends about me and Lauren. We just hit our five-year wedding anniversary and are still waiting for the honeymoon to end.  Lauren and I met at Camp Hardtner, where we were both lifelong campers who had the great opportunity to serve on Permanent Staff and still continue to serve and give back there.  We have two dogs, Lucy and Rigby (yes, named after Beatles songs!).  They are crazy and wild and are our babies.  We love the outdoors, live music, festivals of all shapes and sizes, good food, and spending time with friends.  We recognize we are coming to the right place!

We are ready to get to know every one of you and start our ministry in Lafayette.  See you soon!

Farewell in Christ, our shared hope,

Father Michael Bordelon
