Saint Barnabas Disaster Relief Committee

Where?: Saint Barnabas Episcopal Church, 400 Camellia, Lafayette, Louisiana.

What?: This committee responds with supplies and volunteers to emergency situations, both in and out of the Lafayette area.

Why?: The goal of this committee is twofold: to provide affected communities with a trained Disaster Relief Team as well as needed supplies in the event of a community emergency; and to provide emergency planning in the event of a mandatory evacuation order while maintaining the continuity of church and services.

When?: The Disaster Relief Committee operates only in the event of an emergency.

Who?: This committee was initially created in 2005 by the parish's clergy as a result of immediate needs arising from hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The Saint Barnabas Disaster Relief Committee is currently under the direction of parishioner Sam
Hawkins, with a 2008 budget of $5000 and an additional donation of $4000 for Disaster Relief.

September 2008: Parish water collection for distribution in affected areas; Attendance at Disaster Relief Training at Asbury Methodist Church resulting in organization of Disaster Relief Team; Donation of $2500 to 232-HELP/211- Project RX- Disaster Relief Medication Fund.
