Foreign Missions Fund

Honduras & Haiti

2008: Funds in the Restricted Mission Trip Outreach Account currently exceed $5000. Each year the Foreign Mission committee schedules and implements a Bingo game, with net proceeds going to the restricted account. In previous years, Saint Barnabas sponsored two mission trips per year with parishioners making up the teams and funds from the restricted account were used to purchase needed medical supplies. However, in early 2007, the efficacy of shortterm medical missions was questioned prompting the committee to re-evaluate these trips and look for an alternative project that would be safe, meaningful and long-term. In other words, a significant commitment in the area that would truly help those in need instead of a quick fix that basically encourages dependence on the arrival of mission teams. With these goals in mind, parishioner Jerry Ernest traveled to Honduras with ACTS Honduras in January 2008 in order to assess available projects and gather research regarding viability.
We hope to have a project available in the near future at which time mission trips
will resume.

2007: $500 A monetary donation was made to Christian Service International in support of parishioner Susan Horton’s sister, Nancy Smith, who is doing missionary work in Haiti.
