BECOME A MEMEBR
If you are an Episcopalian:
If you are a baptized or confirmed member of another Episcopal congregation, you can transfer your membership to St. Barnabas. Provide the parish office with the name and location of the previous Episcopal Church where you were a member and the approximate dates of your membership, and we will request a letter of transfer from that parish.
If you were baptized in another Christian Church:
If you were baptized with water in the Name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit in any Christian Church, you may become a “baptized member” of St. Barnabas. Just provide the parish office with the date and location of your birth and your baptismal date and location. For example: born: August 10, 1987; Bugtussle, Texas. Baptized: June 12, 1993; Calvary Baptist Church, Houston, Texas.
If you wish to be Confirmed or Received:
The Book of Common Prayer defines Confirmation as “the rite in which we express a mature commitment to Christ, and receive strength from the Holy Spirit through prayer and the laying on of hands by a bishop.” Also, Canon I.17.1C states that, “It is ‘expected’ that all adult members of this Church, after appropriate instruction, will make a public affirmation of their faith and be confirmed by the laying on of hands by a bishop.” Youth and adult confirmation classes are offered yearly at St. Barnabas. Any baptized adult or any youth in the 6th grade or higher is eligible. Persons who have been confirmed in another Christian Church by a bishop in the apostolic succession (Catholic, Lutheran, Orthodox) are received by the bishop rather than confirmed.
If you have not been baptized:
Call the parish office or speak with one of the clergy at St. Barnabas if you wish to receive the Sacrament of Holy Baptism. In the Episcopal Church, a baptism may be done any Sunday except in the season of Advent or Lent. We also have five Feast Day Sundays specified by the Book of Common Prayer for baptism. They are the first Sunday after the Epiphany (the baptism of our Lord), Easter Eve, Pentecost, All Saints Day, and upon the visitation of our bishop. Anyone baptized at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church is a “baptized member.” Anyone over 16 years of age who is baptized is considered an adult member.
Communicant:
The Canons of The Episcopal Church define who is a communicant.
