What is Holy Eucharist?
In the Episcopal Church, Holy Eucharist--also known as Communion or The Lord's Supper-- is considered "the principle act of Christian worship" (The Book of Common Prayer, page 13). It is a sacred meal where we come together to receive the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the bread and wine. As we share in this sacrament, we are spiritually nourished and reminded of Christ’s love and sacrifice for us.
At St. Barnabas, our Sunday services include readings from Scripture, a sermon, statements of faith, prayer, music, and the Holy Eucharist. All baptized Christians, regardless of denomination, are welcome to receive Communion. This act of worship brings us closer to God and one another, uniting us as the body of Christ.
Through the Eucharist, we experience God’s grace, love, and presence in a profound and personal way. Whether you are new to this tradition or have taken Communion many times before, you are invited to join us at Christ’s table.

What is Evening Prayer?
At St. Barnabas, Evening Prayer is a peaceful midweek service where we gather for a brief time of prayer, reflection, and connection with God. Most Wednesdays, we offer a 15-20 minute liturgy, blending the timeless words of the Book of Common Prayer with materials from Enriching Our Worship. This service is a way to pause, refocus, and be renewed by God’s presence in the middle of the week.
On the first Wednesday of each month, we invite you to experience Centering Prayer—a contemplative practice that allows us to rest in God's love and stillness. This 20-minute time of silence offers a chance to quiet your mind, let go of distractions, and simply be in God’s presence.
There’s no need for prior experience, specific affiliation, or equipment to participate. All you need to bring is yourself and simply be.

We understand that visiting somewhere new, especially a spiritual space, can be unnerving for many people. We want to offer you as many resources as possible to make you feel more comfortable. On this page you will find a map of our campus, an in-depth guide to following along in our services, and a list of frequently asked questions. Feel free to use our contact information at the bottom of the page if you are in need of any further information. |

How should i dress?
Officially: dress reverent but comfortable. But please know that we care much more about why you are here than what you look like.
Can i Receive Holy Communion?
In the Episcopal Church we recognize the Holy Eucharist as being the Real Presence of Jesus Christ and the communion as being our family dinner. Therefore, all baptized Christians are welcome and encouraged to come forward and receive the sacrament, no matter what flavor of Christianity you were baptized into.
Is there reserved seating?
As long as you don't set in the bishop's chair at the very front, you are ok!
What do i need to bring?
Bring an open heart and the willingness to experience our Lord Jesus Christ through the Sacrament and the company of your neighbor. Ushers in the back will hand out service bulletins which will allow you to find your spot in our Book of Common Prayer (red book), our worship book in the Episcopal Church, and hymn numbers to sing along from our Hymnal (blue book). Both books are in the pew.
What happens after the service?
Everyone meets and greets and shares in each other's company, and we would love for you to join us! Coffee is served after morning services and volunteers sign up to bring refreshments after both morning services.
You can spot members of our welcoming committee by their navy blue 'Welcome!' lanyards. They are there to make sure you have what you need to make you feel comfortable and welcome.

What should i do with my Children?
At St. Barnabas we consider ourselves a family church through and through, so the choice is really up to you. We have a nursery available for our little ones from 6 months to four years old.
Is there "sunday School" or Christian Formation?
Yes!
Adult Christian Formation happens from 9:15-10:15 in Ramsay Hall. It is usually let by on of our priests. The class topics change throughout the year.
Children's Christian Formation (Kindergarden through 5th grade) happens from 9:00-10:15 in the EYC Building.
We also have EYC, the Episcopal Church's youth group, that meets from 2pm-4pm (6th through 8th grade) and 4pm - 6pm (9th through 11th grade) every Sunday. We have a very active EYC program and would be happy to provide more information.

When i arrive for church, where do i go?
You can enter directly into Ramsay Hall. This is one of the main gather spots before and after service. You can also enter through our Narthex. You can think of the Narthex as a type of foyer to the Sanctuary; it connects the Sanctuary to the rest of the building and has big glass doors you can enter on both Mt. Vernon Dr. side and Camellia Blvd. side of the building.
How can i learn more?
Make sure that when you visit you leave us your contact info, this is so we can add you to our email list if you are not already there. Some best ways to learn more would be to visit the "About Us" page on this website. There you can find wonderful links about our history, what we believe, and even some resources. On top of that, our clergy and lay leaders are always available and love to answer questions and discuss our faith.
Where can i find the Restrooms?
We have two gender-neutral restrooms down the hallway directly across from the sanctuary, and two more gendered restrooms at the back of Ramsay Hall.
What if I have Mobility Issues?
We have ADA parking spots closest to the Sanctuary, Mt Vernon Road side. The restrooms at the back of Ramsay Hall can easily accommodate a large motorized wheel chair. When it comes time for communion, if you would like to stay where you are, let an usher know and the worship leaders will come and bring the Holy Sacrament to you.
